It's Fast and Furious! It's the Kirby Derby...Derby!
The Derby is an adult event, as Dead Man's Curve and the Racers themselves can be very unpredictable.
NEW FOR 2011:
There will be 2 categories of races
• Formula 1 Racers
• Classic No Class Racers
Rules:
• All racers must participate in the parade in order to qualify and in order to gain audience support. The car can be pushed or on a trailer for the parade. It does not have to be driven.
• ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK (and make sure your health insurance is up to date :-)
• All riders must be 18+ years old
• Helmets must be worn by all riders
• The vehicle must have working brakes
• The vehicle must have at least 3 wheels
• The vehicle must have a steering method and be able to turn
• Riders must be behind the steering element and be seated
• NO MORE THAN 2 RIDERS per vehicle
• No engines of any kind
• It is ultimately up to the judges to determine if the vehicle is fit and fair to enter
Considerations:
If at all possible, you should schedule a practice run around Dead Man's Curve. Make sure to have someone with you and someone at the bottom and top of the hill stopping cars while you make your run.
Remember, winning is in the eye of the beholder (race judge), who might be intoxicated at the time

So as a fourteen year old longboarder, I think this is a fantastic event. However, as a fourteen year old longboarder, I would love to be able to participate in such a fantastic event, only problem is the fourteen year old part. Is there any possible way you could make an exception if I got say, parents permission?
Sorry Ian. We appreciate your enthusiasm, but the event is for adults only. It’s basically because we don’t trust any of the adult drivers. There is misplaced juvenile and/or delinquent behaviors all around the soap box derby. The danger of the event is real, but the danger racing against the adult crazees is realer. You CAN participate in any of the other events (parade, drag race, pinecar classic). Thanks again and hope to see you at Kirby Derby.
